Although Summer does not start for a few months, the time it takes to see a transformation in your body is typically 8 - 12 weeks. With that in mind, start setting those goals is now. Generally it takes 4 weeks for you to notice a difference within your own body, and 8 weeks for someone else to notice a change. By starting now you’ll have major results by the time sleeveless shirts and shorts come back!
Diet Matters Most
Diet is about 80% of your transformation and has a bigger impact on your body than exercise alone. Of course exercise is essential, but people spend more time eating than they do exercising. Nutrition kickstarts weight loss, exercise keeps the weight off. Remember that diet and exercise go hand-in-hand and solely focusing on cardio will not help keep weight off in the future. Instead focus on HITT or circuit style resistance training. Growing your muscles will help you burn more calories throughout the day, and will help you keep the weight off. To clean up your diet, focus on decreasing your sugar, carbs, and alcohol intake. Staying hydrated will help fight bloat, fatigue, will boost your immune system as well as your metabolism.
Don’t Overdo It
While weight loss is a common goal, it should be reached in a healthy way. In order to keep your body healthy you don’t want to lose more than 1-2% of your body weight per week according to the American College of Sports Medicine. While on a weight loss journey, keep in mind when deciding what your goal weight is that 2-4lbs per week is ideal. If you want to drop 30 pounds your time frame to get to your goal weight will take a minimum of 15 weeks. It’s never too early to start working on your "Best Self", as long as you take precautions and think long term.
Think Long Term
Crash diets and fast weight loss journeys often end in failure. By focusing on the long term (3 months to a 1 year) you will be better able to hold on to and maintain your new physique without crashing completely. This slow and steady process ensures that your results will last longer--and there is nothing wrong with having a 6-pack in late November. Even your favorite actors take months to get in shape for their roles; Michael B. Jordan took 4 months to get in perfect shape for Creed.
