Harvesting Your Power This Fall
With the seasons changing, darker evenings, and time change right around the corner, it can be easy to fall off your healthy eating habits. Picking up prepared food on your way home may seem like a good idea but can be seriously affecting your diet. To maintain a healthy diet try opting for any of our healthy Fall eating tips.
Embrace Soup
Soups are warm and comforting, but they’ve been abandoned for heavier chowders. Try opting for classic chicken noodle soup or tomato soups. If you want something more creamy then butternut squash soup is in season and is a great option. We recommend making your soups from scratch so you can control all the ingredients in your food, but there are some great and inexpensive options that you can find in any grocery store.
Try Tea
Start your day with some hot tea! Drinking tea in the morning in place or as a supplement to coffee gives your stomach a great head-start and can help with chilly mornings. Having something warm in your belly can also help curb those cravings for sugary breakfast foods and help keep you fuller longer. While not all tea is the same there are various health benefits to most teas. Green tea is great or your stomach and has some caffeine while chamomile is calming and can help you catch a breath on busy mornings or relaxing evenings since chamomile has no caffeine.
Turn on Your Oven
With hotter days behind us, you can now turn on the oven without worrying about making your house hotter. Your oven is a great tool in cooking, especially in-season foods that are difficult to cook on the stove. For example, spaghetti squash is an amazing and super easy meal to make that anyone would love. Spaghetti Squash is also very low in calories, with only 31 calories per cup. Turn on your oven this week and switch from frying pans to baking dishes, it's easy and requires less work. Use any source of protein you’d like, whether it’s fish or chicken, you can make almost anything in the oven, save yourself extra work, and use less oil while heating your house on colder nights.
Incorporate Seasonal Favorites
As mentioned, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, pumpkins, and more amazing foods are in season and are great to cook with. You can make soups, squash bowls, roasted chicken and vegetables and more! Branch out this Fall and create new recipes with Fall foods that will keep you warm and give you that seasonal comfort.
